After A Long Time, Firli Bahuri's Case Regarding The New KPK Law Rises Investigation

Polda Metro conveyed the latest developments in case handling involving the former chairman of the KPK, Firli Bahuri. For alleged violations of the KPK Law, it is said that it has gone up to the investigation stage.

"The LP has also been fingerprinted regarding the alleged criminal act as Article 36 in conjunction with Article 65 of Law Number 30 of 2002 concerning the Corruption Eradication Commission," said Director of Special Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Ade Safri Simanjuntak when confirmed, Tuesday, August 13.

It is known, Article 36 of the KPK Law prohibits the leaders of anti-corruption institutions from having direct or indirect contact with litigants in corruption crimes that are being handled by the KPK

In a series of case handling related to Firli Bahuri, investigators are also investigating the crime of money laundering (TPPU). However, it was not conveyed in detail about its development.

As a reminder, at the beginning of the handling of the Firli Bahuri case, Polda Metro Jaya suspected it with Article 12 e or Article 12 B or Article 11 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended and supplemented by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption.

However, based on the results of coordination with the Prosecutor's Office, investigators should not only focus on alleged extortion.

So, Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto on July 5, said investigators were investigating several alleged criminal acts committed by Firli Bahuri.

"In principle, in the principle that we are not allowed to pay in installments of cases because yesterday Article 36 was a bit behind, we focused yesterday on extortion and alleged bribery," said Karyoto.

Because it was too focused on the alleged extortion, it was one of the reasons for the settlement of the case for the 2019 to 2023 KPK chairman to run slowly.

"But because we have coordinated with the prosecutor again that we must not pay the case in installments, so it is a bit slow, we will finish both at once," said Karyoto.
