JAKARTA The Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta, Teguh Setyabudi, stated that he wanted to discuss accelerating the construction of the coastal embankment in the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) project with the elected candidate pair for governor and deputy governor Pramono Anung and Rano Karno, who won the highest votes in the 2024 DKI Jakarta Pilkada.
Teguh plans to convey various obstacles faced by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) regarding the acceleration of the construction of embankments which are one of the main efforts in preventing tidal flooding in the coastal area of Jakarta.
"I will try to communicate with the elected governor and deputy governor regarding this issue. If the construction of the embankment can be accelerated and the community is not constrained, hopefully the target can be achieved more quickly," Teguh told reporters, Wednesday, December 18.
The NCICD coastal embankment project was jointly carried out between the central government and the DKI Provincial Government. Until now, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has completed the construction of 14.7 kilometers, while the DKI Provincial Government has completed 8.2 kilometers.
However, there are still 16 kilometers of embankments that have not been built, with details of 3.3 kilometers being the responsibility of the Ministry of PUPR and 12.8 kilometers being the duty of the DKI Provincial Government.
Initially, the 39-kilometer embankment was targeted to be completed in 2028. However, the target was pushed back to 2030 due to various obstacles. Teguh hopes that the elected governor and deputy governor pairs can prioritize this project so that the completion can be accelerated until 2027.
"As long as the embankment is not finished, the tidal waves like today will continue to occur in areas where the embankment has not yet been completed. Hopefully, the elected governors and deputy governors will be able to speed up this project," Teguh added.
Previously, the Acting Head of the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Service, Ika Agustin Ningrum, explained several factors that hindered the NCICD coastal embankment project. First, there are obstacles in the procurement of goods and services related to development. Second, the design of embankments requires adjustments to accommodate the needs of fishermen, such as mooring ships and the placement area of fish catch.

"We have to make sure the mooring of the ship does not block the shipping lane, and provides a fishing area for fishing. This requires additional time to be coordinated," explained Ika at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday, December 17.
Despite the obstacles, Ika emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government is committed to completing this project according to the new target by 2030.
