JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) reports that the industrial sector accounts for 34 percent of total greenhouse gas emissions.

This was conveyed by the Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry Andi Rizaldi at the Kick Off 2nd Annual Indonesia Agenda Green Industry Summit (AIGIS) 2025 at the Ministry of Industry office, Jakarta, Wednesday, December 18.

"We submit a report that (the industrial sector) directly contributes 34 percent of total greenhouse gas emissions," he said.

In detail, the pulp & paper industry contributed 15.55 percent, the cement industry 11.35 percent, the textile industry 4.92 percent, the food and beverage industry (mamin) 4.77 percent and the iron and steel industry 4.66 percent.

Therefore, Andi considers that the industrial sector has a strategic role in climate change mitigation efforts through the transformation towards the green industry.

"This transformation not only reduces emissions, but also increases the efficiency and productivity of the manufacturing industry," he said.

According to Andi, industries that adapt to low-carbon economies will gain competitive advantages, create new jobs and increase the competitiveness of local products.

"However, this transition must be carried out fairly and inclusively, balancing decarbonization with the welfare of the community," said Andi.

To strengthen national commitment and encourage cross-sectoral collaboration, the Ministry of Industry also held the Annual Indonesia Green Industry Summit (AIGIS).

"This event aims to support the adoption of environmentally friendly technology, share the best practices of sustainability and build a green business ecosystem through policy support and financing," he concluded.

The green industry policy is in line with the principle of sustainable development and supports a green economy through resource efficiency, transition to new and renewable energy (EBT), technological innovation and management of chemicals and waste.
