JAKARTA - Suwarno, an individual Other Service Provider (PJLP) of the Cleanliness Implementation Unit (UPK) of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH) is strongly suspected of carrying out illegal levies (Pungli) on job recruitment for residents of North Jakarta Penjaringan.

Even Suwarno asked for the extortion of up to tens of millions as a condition to be able to work at the PJLP of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency.

The alleged extortion was uncovered after a woman became a victim. The victim went berserk because he felt cheated. He asked Suwarno to be held accountable. The victim's actions went on a rampage and were recorded on video and went viral on social media.

In the video footage, the victim admitted that he was promised a job at DLH by Suwarno as long as he gave him several million. However, after the woman sent some money in March 2023, she never got the job.

Head of the UPK Implementation Unit of the Penjaringan Sub-district Water Agency, Rianto Naibaho, said that Suwarno was suspected of being an accomplice to an employee of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Service with the initials EK.

"Suwarno is tempted by individuals who claim to be able to enter work at the Water Agency's UPS in exchange for IDR 3 million per person," Rianto said when confirmed, Sunday, August 11.

He said EK asked Suwarno to find as many as 20 people who wanted to work as UPK officers for the Water Agency in the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

Suwarno also collected Rp. 3 million per person from the 20 residents. However, after the dozens of residents paid to Suwarno, the promised work never got.

"Waiting for one month or two there will be no calls and no work will be received," he said.

As a result of the case, the victims asked Suwarno to immediately return the money they had deposited. Currently, Suwarno has been questioned by his superiors regarding this case.

"The result of our examination that Suwarno has violated his obligation in the form of maintaining a positive image of the unit, he works in this case UPS of the Water Agency and also commits a disgraceful act and the prohibition he violates is participating in extortion efforts," he said.
