JAKARTA - The Indonesian government is committed to developing domestic research and innovation. This government commitment was revealed by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). "This year, our consumption in the use of funds from the Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP) is much greater, because the scheme has started to run," said Head of BRIN Laksana Tri Handoko, as reported by ANTARA, during the 29th National Rights Commemoration in the Soekarno Science and Technology Area (KST), Cibinong, Bogor, Saturday, August 10.

He explained that previously what was used was only around Rp. 100 billion per year, but this year it has almost Rp. 500 billion only for research and does not include equipment procurement. Handoko stated that the research fund was also strengthened by the government's commitment to providing research equipment, sourced both from the state budget, as well as through a cooperation scheme with the private sector., he explained, aimed at creating quality research human resources (HR), not only for the government through Ministries and Institutions (K/L), but also for all stakeholders, both academics, industry, and so on. "With that, we hope that the industry will be more confident, such as the pharmaceutical industry which is starting to develop formula-based manufacturing," he said.

In addition, Handoko also said that the various BRIN research facilities available can also be used by academics, both lecturers and students in conducting research. This, he continued, is the government's effort to bridge academic interest in conducting research, but so far it has been constrained by inadequate campus laboratory facilities. "In fact, in some cases such as food production research, the production is here (BRIN Laboratory)," he continued. Through a number of these efforts, Handoko hopes that research and innovation can be a fundamental factor in the development of the nation in the future.
