New Zealand Citizen Helicopter Pilot Killed By KKB Papua In Mimika, Ministry Of Transportation Coordination Of The TNI-Polri

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) fully supports the settlement of the case of the murder of a New Zealand citizen helicopter pilot (WN) by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Mimika, Central Papua on Monday 5 August. "The Directorate General of Civil Aviation continues to monitor the situation and provides full support for the completion of this incident," said Head of the Public Relations and General Cooperation Section of the Directorate General of Air Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation Mokhammad Khusnu in his statement, Tuesday, August 6, confiscated by Antara.

Even so, Khusnu did not explain in more detail the form of support given, but he emphasized that he would continue to monitor the situation for the incident.

"And will continue to coordinate with the Merauke Regional Airport Authority Office (Bandara) X and the security forces of the TNI and Police to obtain the latest information," he said.

He conveyed that his party received an initial report of the incident of the KKB attack on a helicopter with registration of the MD 500 D type PK-IWN belonging to Intan Angkasa Air Services at Airstrip Alama, Mimika Regency, Central Papua at 10.17 LT (local time), Monday, August 5, 2024.

The helicopter flew from Timika to Airstrip Alama with seven passengers or on board (POB), namely Pilot Capt. Glen Malcolm Conning from New Zealand, then four adult passengers, and two children.

"This morning on August 6, 2024, as many as six TNI AD helicopters and police have evacuated, and found the Pilot dead, and immediately evacuated to Timika Hospital," he explained.

Meanwhile, four adult passengers and two children were declared alive and in Alama District.

"Similarly, what can be conveyed while waiting for the development of information and will be conveyed at the first opportunity," said Khusnu.

Previously, the Free Papua Organization (OPM) took hostage and killed the helicopter pilot belonging to PT. Intan Angkasa Air Service, Mr. Glen Malcolm Conning (50) New Zealand nation, Monday.

Head of the Cartenz Peace Operation 2024 Brigadier General Pol. Faizal Ramadhani said the organization that contradicts the NKRI also burned IWN helicopters, in Alama District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua Province at 10.00 WIT.

"It is true that there have been hostage-taking and killings carried out by OPM against Mr. Glen Malcolm Conning, who is a helicopter pilot belonging to PT. Intan Angkasa Air Service," he said in a press release Monday, August 6.

According to Faizal, the incident occurred when the helicopter arrived in Alama District, Mimika Regency, carrying four passengers, namely two health workers and one baby and one child from Moses Kilangin Timika Airport to Alama District.

"And at that moment Mr. Glen Malcolm Conning was immediately killed by OPM," he said.
