DPR Values Prabowo's Visit To Russia Shows Indonesia's Active Free Political Consistency

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Meutya Hafid, welcomed the meeting of the Minister of Defense and President-elect of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Meutya assessed that Prabowo's visit to Russia was a form of active free foreign policy consistency. "The meeting between Pak Prabowo and the President of Russia also supports the increasing cooperation between Indonesia and Russia in various fields. Visits to Russia also show a Good Neighbour Policy strategy that prioritizes maintaining good relations with each country as well as ensuring Indonesia's independent and free foreign interference policies," said Meutya Hafid, to reporters, Thursday, August 1. The North Sumatra electoral district Golkar legislator also supports increasing cooperation between Indonesia and Russia in various fields. According to him, cooperation in the defense, food and energy sectors is very important for Indonesia's current national interests. "In the defense sector, Pak Prabowo plans to strengthen Indonesia's defense by doing technology transfer from Russia," said Meutya. "We know together with the Indonesian Air Force that they still use Sukhoi Su-27 and Su-30 fighter jet planes, through technological transfer from Russia, will reduce the dependence of defense industry to other countries as well as realize the independence of Indonesia's defense industry in the future," continued the head of the foreign affairs commission. Previously, in a press statement received Thursday, August 1, Prabowo said that Russia has helped Indonesia in building defense and military forces. As a defense minister, Prabowo specifically revealed how good work between Indonesia and Russia. "And I came here to emphasize that this relationship will be continued when I officially served as president of Indonesia on October 20," Prabowo said.

The General Chair of Gerindra said he had also established intensive communication and discussions with Putin's team. One of them is related to the defense industry. "I also met senior officials in your industry, in the defense industry, and intensively in recent months discussed the roadmap of increasing cooperation between us (Indonesia) and Russia," Prabowo concluded.
