JAKARTA - Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei authorized Masoud Pezeshkian as Iranian President at an event at Imam Khomeini Hosseiniyeh, Tehran, Sunday.

Pezeshkian's ratification as the 9th president of the Islamic Republic of Iran is based on Article 110 of the Constitution.

"I ratify His Excellency Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian as president of the Islamic Republic of Iran," said Ayatollah Khamenei, read by his head of office, launching IRNA July 28.

Khamenei in his relief praised the 14th presidential election as one of the honors of the country, thanking the Iranian people and officials for holding a vote in a quiet environment.

Meanwhile, President Pezeshkian in turn thanked the Supreme Leader of Iran. He also said he had been given a heavy responsibility because the Iranian people had chosen him.

"Obeying the law is the only way that helps the government solve problems and fulfill people's expectations," he said.

The President added that interactions between the government and the people also helped developing countries, while noting that his government intends to achieve this goal while remaining committed to the general policy announced by the Supreme Leader.

Unity and adhering to religious values are also another key factor, he said, while pledging that his government will serve the people as best it can and will "not take another path other than the path of justice and honesty".

Pezeshkian was elected president in the second round of elections held on July 5, after defeating Saeed Jalili. The second round was held a week after the first round of the presidential election, following President Ebrahim Raisi's death in a helicopter crash in western Iran on May 19.

It is planned that the inauguration of Pezeshkian will be held on Tuesday, July 30, with the participation of a number of top Iranian officials and delegates from 70 countries.
