JAKARTA - A Canadian citizen attempted to attack a civilian security unit armed with a knife in southern Israel near the Gaza border. The perpetrator was shot dead, Israeli authorities said.
The incident occurred at the entrance of Netiv HaAsara, a city where security has been increased since Hamas-led militants killed about 20 people there in an October 7 attack in southern Israel that sparked the Gaza war.
The Israeli military said the suspect got out of his vehicle and threatened with a knife against members of the community's rapid response team operating in the area.
