JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said online gambling had damaged many sectors of life to government institutions.

According to him, such conditions must be stopped through various strategic policies.

Online gambling has damaged all aspects of life. That's why it can no longer be tolerated, so in our opinion, it is time for us to stop online gambling in Indonesia," said Budi, quoted from ANTARA, Sunday, July 21.

Budi added that the increasingly massive practice of online gambling is a big challenge for the people of Indonesia.

Citing data from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), he stated, online gambling activities were also found massively in government agencies and state institutions.

"There are four thousand members of the TNI exposed to online gambling, while in Kominfo there are 15 people, the DPR / DPRD around a thousand, the KPK 30s. So, this online gambling has penetrated all agencies," he said.

He also gave an example to several companies that cut off employment because a number of employees were addicted to online gambling. According to him, it is a bad impact on the non-productive behavior of employees that can trigger criminal acts.

"Imagine that there are around 1,500 factories in Bekasi, half of which are laid off because online gambling and the end is crime. They steal and all kinds so that apart from being unproductive, crime increases. That's why we continue to be determined (against) online gambling has damaged all aspects of life," he said.

Budi stated that the Ministry of Communication and Informatics continues to be determined to take firm action by terminating access to various sites that facilitate online gambling.

According to him, for one year from July 17, 2023 to July 17, 2024, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has cut off access to 2,552,749 online gambling content.

That figure is much higher three times compared to 2017 to 2023, which was only 800,000.

"I really appreciate the initiation of the formation of the Cyber Crime and Online Judi Task Force, which we are strengthening together today, because the handling efforts carried out by the government need to be supported by all relevant stakeholders," he said.
