JAKARTA - The European Union has criticized Israel's parliamentary resolution against the creation of a Palestinian state and stressed that the two-state solution remains the only path to peace and security in the Middle East.

"There is a strong consensus in the international community that the only sustainable solution that will bring peace and security in the Middle East is a two-state solution," the bloc said in a written statement reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Saturday, July 20.

The statement said the European Union reaffirmed its commitment to achieving lasting peace through a two-state solution as outlined in UN Security Council Resolutions 2735, 2728, 2720, and 2712 which ensures Palestinians and Israelis can live a safe and dignified life.

The bloc retains its stance by not acknowledging changes to the 1967 border unless agreed upon by both parties.

"We will continue to work actively with international and regional partners to revive the political process to achieve this goal," he stressed.

The credible path to the Palestinian state, he continued, is an important component of the political process.

"There is no hope that the absence of a horizon for the Palestinian people will only deepen the conflict," he added.

Israel ignores UN Security Council resolutions demanding an immediate ceasefire and faces international condemnation amid brutal attacks that have continued in Gaza since the Hamas attack on October 7.

More than 38,800 Palestinians have been killed, most of the victims are women and children, and more than 89,400 people have been injured, according to local health authorities.

More than nine months after the Israeli attack, much of Gaza's territory fell into ruins amid food blockades, clean water, and medicines.

Israel is accused of committing genocide at the International Court, whose latest decision ordered Israel to immediately stop military operations in the southern city of Rafah, where more than 1 million Palestinians seek refuge from war before the country is invased on May 6.
