Explosion At PT Monokem Surya Karawang, Two Workers Died Due To Burns

KARAWANG - The Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) of the Regional Manpower Supervisory 2 of the West Java Manpower and Transmigration Office together with the police are still investigating the explosion that occurred at PT Monokem Surya, Karawang Regency. This incident resulted in two workers dying and one other experiencing burns.

The Head of Public Relations of the Karawang Police, Ipda Solikhin, stated that his party had checked the scene and asked for statements from a number of witnesses.

"We are still conducting an investigation to find the cause of the explosion that resulted in the death of two workers," said Solikhin, as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, December 19.

According to the Regional 2 Manpower Supervisory UPTD, the incident occurred on Monday (16/12) in the titanium slag production area. The two victims died from burns all over their bodies, while one other worker suffered serious burns.

The three victims are known to be wearing complete personal protective equipment (PPE) while working. The incident occurred when a non-zircon production team was removing titanium ingredients that were accommodated in a reservoir to be moved to a cooling water water storage area.

However, during the process of lifting titanium using a toilet, the material exploded suddenly. The exact cause of the explosion is not yet known, and the investigation is still ongoing.

Head of the Regional II Manpower Supervision UPTD of the West Java Manpower Disnakertrans, Ponco Widodo, said that his party would continue to investigate the cause of this incident. "The cause of the fire is still in the process of further investigation," explained Ponco.
