JAKARTA - Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas submitted his resignation on Monday, in line with his election as Head of EU Foreign Policy, the president's office said.

Estonia's first female prime minister officially handed over his resignation to President Alar Karis in a brief meeting at the Presidential Palace in the capital, Tallinn, on Monday, quoted from AP July 15.

The prime minister's move automatically triggered the resignation of the Cabinet of the three Kallas parties, consisting of the Central-right Reform Party, the Social Democrats and the Estonian liberal party 200.

Kallas, 47, led the Reform party to victory in parliamentary elections in 2019 and 2023 and has led the government since 2021, quoted by Reuters.

He will remain Estonia's interim prime minister until the next government is confirmed in early August, said Estonian public broadcaster ERR.

The Reform Party has appointed Christian Climate Minister Michal to become Estonia's next prime minister, pending negotiations to reconfigure the cabinet with its coalition partners.

However, President Karis and parliament's nominations must be approved by 101 people, or Riigikogu.

Like Kallas, the current cabinet will continue to be a temporary government until the new cabinet is inaugurated.

Meanwhile, summarizing the 3.5-year Kallas leadership in the country of 1.3 million people, President Karis said in a statement, "this is a time full of crisis, a milestone (such as) the coronavirus, the economic recession and war in Europe, when Russia destroyed our previous security picture with its aggression in Ukraine".

It is known, the European Union in its meeting in Brussels last month announced the names of the blocks that will be in the next five years. They are Ursula von der Leyen to the President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas (Head of Foreign Policy) and Antonio Costa (President of the European Council).
