Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Hadi Tjahjanto involved the public in discussing the Invitation Plan (RUU) for Amendments to the TNI and Polri Laws.

The involvement was carried out in a discussion forum held by the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in Central Jakarta, Thursday, July 11.

"The goal is to be able to get input about the needs of the community related to the duties and functions of the TNI and Polri," said Hadi, quoted by Antara.

According to Hadi, his party is obliged to open up opportunities for the public to give opinions, especially regarding the Bill on amendments to the TNI and Polri Law which had become public attention.

In the discussion, his party invited various figures from academics, legal practitioners, observers to representatives of the mass media.

Some were invited, including University of General Achmad Yani Lecturer Prof. Hikmanto, University of Indonesia (UI) Lecturer Edy Prasetyono, Secretary General of the Contrast Federation Andy Irfan, University Lecturer Al Azhar Indonesia Suparji Achmad, University of Indonesia (UI) Lecturer Harkristuti and Director of the Indonesian Legal Aid Institute or YLBHI Muhammad Isnur.

The results of the discussion, continued Hadi, will be discussed by the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs to be discussed in the List of Problem Interventions (DIM).

By involving the community, Hadi hopes that the TNI Bill will become a legal product that is right on target for the needs of the community.

Previously, the Special Staff of the President of the Republic of Indonesia for Legal Affairs, Dini Purwono, said that the four bills related to the TNI and Polri, Immigration, and the Ministry of State had reached the process of drafting DIM by the relevant ministries.

"Currently, the problem inventory list of the four bills is being prepared," said Dini Purwono, confirmed in Jakarta, Wednesday, July 10.

Dini said the State Ministry Bill, the Immigration Bill, the TNI Bill and the National Police Bill were bills that became the initiative of the DPR.

The process of drafting DIM, said Dini, was carried out by related ministries and institutions, such as the TNI and Polri Bills by the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.

The two bills have been approved to become the DPR's initiative bill during the DPR RI Plenary Meeting, Tuesday, May 28. The discussion of the TNI and Polri Bill has so far focused on changing retirement age for non-commissioned officers, enlisted officers, and officers.

So far, there have been about two discussions of the TNI Bill in the Legislative Council of the Republic of Indonesia. One of the driving factors for the bill was rolled out because it was to comply with the Law on State Civil Apparatus (ASN) which also contained a change in retirement age.

In the draft bill, the retirement age limit for members of the National Police is regulated in Article 30 paragraph (2) which explains that members of the National Police retire at the age of 60, but can be 65 years for functional officials.
