KPU Affirms Election Organizers For The 2024 Regional Head Elections Must Resign This Week

Acting Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Mochammad Afifuddin reminded the ranks of the KPU, Bawaslu and DKPP to always election organizers to resign if they run or run for the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada.

"For the organizers who are familiarly called Afif in the middle of the road, they must be calculated to resign, no later than 45 days before registering," said the man who is familiarly called Afif at the Coordination Meeting for the Implementation of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections in the Sumatra Region which was monitored online from Jakarta, Tuesday.

This means that he said election organizers must resign first before registering no later than Friday, July 12.

He also admitted that he had received several resignation letters from his staff who wanted to be involved in the contestation every five years.

"I received some yesterday, but not many. The submission has resigned from several ranks who already want to be the organizers (elections), but want to be participants," he said.

In addition, Afif emphasized that this provision is contained in Article 14 of KPU Regulation (PKPU) Number 8 of 2024 concerning the Candidacy of Governors and Deputy Governors, Regents and Deputy Regents, as well as Mayors and Deputy Mayors.

The PKPU was officially promulgated on Tuesday, July 2.

"Stop serving as a member of the KPU, Provincial KPU, Regency/City KPU, Bawaslu, Provincial Bawaslu, Regency/City Bawaslu, or the Honorary Council for Election Implementation no later than 45 (fourty-five) Days before registration of Candidate Pairs," read Article 14 paragraph (4) letter b of KPU Regulation (PKPU) Number 8 of 2024.

This provision has changed compared to the conditions for the resignation of the election organizers to the previous PKPU, namely PKPU Number 9 of 2020.

At the PKPU, election organizers who want to run in the regional elections must resign before the formation of election officers (ad hoc bodies) such as PPK (district election committee) and PPS (voting committee).

For information, the ranks of PPK and PPS in the 2024 Pilkada have been inaugurated since April 17. Registration of pairs of candidates for regional heads and representatives is open on August 27-29, 2024.

The following is the schedule for the 2024 Pilkada:

1. On 27 February 16 November 2024: Notification and registration of election monitor;2. On 24 April 31 May 2024: Submission of a list of potential voters;3. On 5 May August 19, 2024: Fulfillment of the support requirements for individual candidate pairs; 4. On 31 May 23 September 2024: Updating and compiling of a list of voters;5. On 24 26 August 2024: Announcement of candidate pair registration;6. On 2729 August 2024: Candidate pair registration; 7. On 27 August 21 September 2024: candidate requirements research; 8. On 22 September 2024: Determination of candidate pairs; 9. On 25 September 23 November 2024: campaign implementation; 10. On 27 November 2024: voting implementation; and 11. On 27 November December 2024: vote count and recapitulation of vote count results.
