JAKARTA Indonesia is the host of the 4th International Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) event which was opened by the Minister of Religion (Menag) of the Republic of Indonesia Nasaruddin Umar in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 29.

He emphasized that the interest of the world community in this competition is very large, as evidenced by the participation of participants from 187 countries in the pre-qualification stage which will be held online in 2023.
Of the 60 participants who qualified for the semifinals in Jakarta, there were participants from the Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, Italy, and Canada.
A number of African countries, such as Egypt, Libya, Tanzania, Mauritania, Guinea, Kenya, Central Africa, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Somalia, Chad, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, and Mozambique, also sent representatives.
In addition, this competition was also attended by participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Iran, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Kuwait, T\"urkiye, Yemen, and Palestine.

The Minister of Religion added that in addition to tilawah, this event also presented a competition to memorize the Quran, discussions, exhibitions, and workshops.
"We are also holding cultural recognition and city tour activities, considering that the participants are guests from various countries, most of whom may have never visited Indonesia. We will take them to some interesting destinations," he said.
Furthermore, he said that the international MTQ this time carried the theme 'Al-Quran, Environment, and Humanity for Global Harmoni'.
"This theme challenges us to prove that the Quran is one of the holy books that emphasizes the importance of environmental conservation," he concluded.
