JAKARTA - The fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, admitted that she was saddened by Hasyim Asy'ari's behavior as Chairman of the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU). "KPU, yesterday. Why did I say this? Because I am a citizen of the nation. It's sad that I saw the name of the government of the Republic of Indonesia, that's part, why is that, I'm dizzy," said Megawati in the Lenteng Agung area, Jakarta, Antara, Friday, July 5. In fact, the KPU has a function to protect the community. This is because, Mega continued, people are still in the shadow of poverty, injustice, and various obstacles to participate equally in all processes of life and nation. "In fact, its function is to protect, give that I said earlier, it is still maintained by poverty, injustice, and various suspensions of its rights to participate equally in all political, economic and national progress processes," he said. Previously, last Wednesday, the Chairman of the Indonesian KPU, Hasyim Asy'ari, thanked the Honorary Council of Election Organizers (DKPP) of the Republic of Indonesia for imposing permanent dismissal sanctions on him related to cases of alleged immorality. This was conveyed by Hasyim in a press conference at the Indonesian KPU Office, Jakarta, Wednesday. "On this occasion I would like to convey, I would like to say thank God and I would like to thank the DKPP for exempting me from heavy tasks as a member of the KPU who held the election," said Hasyim. He also apologized to the media crew if during his tenure as Chairman of the Indonesian KPU there were words or actions that were not pleasing. "To journalists who have been interacting with me, if there are words or actions that I do not like, I apologize," he said. On Wednesday, the Indonesian DKPP imposed a permanent dismissal for the Chairman of the Indonesian KPU, Hasyim Asy'ari, in connection with the alleged immoral case. "Imposing a permanent dismissal sanction to the defendant Hasyim Asy'ari as chairman and concurrently member of the Indonesian General Elections Commission, this decision is read out," said Chairman of the Indonesian DKPP Heddy Lugito in a hearing to read the verdict at the DKPP RI Office, Jakarta, Wednesday. In addition, the Indonesian DKPP granted the complainant's complaint entirely, then asked the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo to replace Hasyim within 7 days of the reading of the verdict. "The president of the Republic of Indonesia to carry out this decision no later than 7 days after the verdict is read," he said.

Finally, the Indonesian DKPP asked the Indonesian General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to oversee the implementation of the decision. The trial for Case Number 90-PKE-DKPP/V/2024 was started at 14:10 WIB and opened by the Chairman of the Indonesian DKPP Heddy Lugito. At this trial, Hasyim was present online via the Zoom teleconference application.
