Hasyim Asy'ari Dismissed From KPU Chair, Jokowi: Pilkada Can Run Honestly And Fairly

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ensured that the 2024 Pilkada would continue to run well after Hasyim Asy'ari was dismissed from the position of Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) by the Election Organizing Honorary Council (DKPP).

According to the KPU schedule, the regional elections will still be held simultaneously on November 27, 2024, because there is already a mechanism for interim dismissal to fill the vacancies of KPU members.

"The government will ensure that the regional elections can run well, smoothly, honestly, and fairly," said President Jokowi on the sidelines of a working visit to Sinjai Regency, South Sulawesi (Sulsel), Thursday, July 4, which was confiscated by Antara.

Furthermore, the President stated that he respects the authority of the DKPP which decided to dismiss Hasyim Asy'ari regarding immoral cases.

He also said that he would immediately process the Presidential Decree (Keppres) to follow up on the DKPP decision.

"The Presidential Decree has not yet entered my desk. (Still) is in the process, the administrative process. It's normal," said Jokowi.

DKPP imposed a permanent dismissal sanction on Hasyim Asy'ari as the chairman and concurrently a member of the KPU, related to the alleged immoral case against a member of the National Election Committee (PPLN) of The Hague, Netherlands, with the initials CAT.

The verdict was read out in the trial of the verdict for alleged violation of the code of ethics at the DKPP RI Office, Jakarta, Wednesday, July 3.

DKPP granted the complainant's complaint entirely, and asked the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo to replace Hasyim within seven days of the reading of the verdict.

Reports of alleged violations of the election organizers' code of ethics (KEPP) against Hasyim were initially filed by the Legal Aid Consultation Institute and the Choice of Completion of Disputes at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (LKBH-PPS FH UI) and the Legal Aid Institute of the Indonesian Women's Association for Justice (LBH APIK), as the victim's attorney, on Thursday 18 April 2024.

The victim's attorney assessed that the actions of KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari as a defendant were included in the violation of the code of ethics based on DKPP Regulation Number 2 of 2017 concerning the Code of Ethics and the Code of Conduct for General Election Organizers.

According to the victim's attorney, KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari as a defendant puts personal interests first to satisfy his sexual desire for the victim.
