Investigators from the Detective and Criminal Unit of the Kaimana Police, West Papua are currently investigating a case of alleged sexual harassment of a student by a local official.
Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kaimana Police, Iptu Boby Rahman, said the case had been going on for a long time, to be precise around 2023. However, it was only reported to the Integrated Police Service Center (SPKT) of the Kaimana Police on Tuesday (2/7) night by the victim's parents.
"The victim told her parents what happened. After that, the victim's parents made an official complaint to the Kaimana Police," said Iptu Boby as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 3.
The Kaimana Police Satreskrim investigation team has not received sufficient preliminary evidence to process the case.
"We need to underline, we just received a complaint, not a police report. The reason is because when fellow investigators receive a complaint, preliminary evidence is still lacking to make a police report," explained Iptu Boby.
Furthermore, the Kaimana Police Satreskrim will conduct a case title to determine the article that will be imposed on potential suspects if the case is escalated to a police report.
"When the case is raised to a police report, the status of the case will automatically be upgraded to the investigation stage. That's why we will hold a case by collecting information from several witnesses and other evidence," he said.
