JAKARTA - Reportedly 27 people were trampled to death during a religious event in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
The tragedy occurred in a village in the Hathras district, about 200 km southeast of the nation's capital, New Delhi.
Local newspapers report more people are feared to be killed.
The death toll includes 25 women and two men, district medical officer Umesh Kumar Tripathi told Reuters by telephone Tuesday, July 2.
