Deputy Gerindra Tepis Jokowi Offers Kaesang's Name For The Jakarta Gubernatorial Election

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra Party, Habiburokhman, dismissed news that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) offered the name of his son, Kaesang Pangarep, who is also the General Chair of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) to political parties to be promoted in the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada.

He emphasized that the statement made by the Secretary General of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Habib Aboe Bakar Al Habsyi was not true.

"The statement by Habib Aboe Bakar Al Habsyi has been denied by PSI that it is not true that Mr. President Jokowi has offered Mas Kaesang to political parties," Habiburokhman said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 28.

Habiburokhman then explained that the Gerindra Party's own mechanism in determining the regional head candidates to be promoted in the regional elections was to capture aspirations from the grassroots level.

"Maybe the same as other political parties is that we capture aspirations at the gassroot level," he said.

The aspiration, he continued, would be forwarded in stages to Gerindra Party officials at the top level, starting from the Branch Leadership Council (DPC), Regional Leadership Council (DPD), Gerindra Party Central Leadership Council (DPP).

"Then it was decided by the General Chair or Chairman of the Board of Trustees, namely Pak Prabowo Subianto," he said.

Habiburokhman said that after an internal agreement by the Gerindra Party, the name would be discussed with other political parties.

"Maybe the priority is from the Forward Indonesia Coalition, if the new Deal advances," he said.

According to him, the discussion regarding the names of regional head candidates that will be carried by the Gerindra Party and the coalition is still too early, because each internal political party is still carrying out the brewing.

"Whether the cagub is Mr. A or Mr. B, it is still too premature and it is still too early to be discussed because there has been no decision in any party regarding who the cagub is, who is the cawagub. We'll just have to wait for the decision," he said.
