Dozens Of CCTVs On The Streets Of Surabaya Error Make It Difficult For Police To Investigate Crime Cases

SURABAYA - Surabaya City Police (Polrestabes) revealed "CCTV" surveillance cameras on dozens of roads or were not functioning properly, thus slowing the investigation into various street crime events.

Head of the Surabaya Police Traffic Unit (Kasat Lalu) AKBP Arif Fazlurrahman said there were 24 CCTVs that did not work properly because they often died and a few minutes later they started again.

"Most of them are located in the middle of the city," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 27.

One of them caused it difficult for the Satlantas officers to investigate the perpetrators of a hit-and-run accident on Jalan Embong Malang, Surabaya, on June 23, which resulted in a elderly rider being seriously injured.

Therefore, to identify the perpetrators, the police must look for CCTV footage installed independently in buildings around the scene of the case. However, AKBP Arif emphasized that the recording image was not very clear because it was too far away.

In addition, during an investigation into the hit-and-run case on Jalan Embong Malang Surabaya, the images of the incident recorded by CCTV were blocked by the pillars of the building.

"This is of course a joint evaluation from the police and the Surabaya City Government to jointly care for instruments and infrastructure that are needed by the community. Moreover, the state apparatus in protecting the city of Surabaya is very much needed to be safe, comfortable and peaceful," said AKBP Arif.

CCTV has been installed on various roads in the city of Surabaya since 2019 to fulfill the concept of Smart City, providing a sense of security for the community.

For this reason, the Head of Traffic Unit, AKBP Arif, ensured that the Surabaya Police had coordinated with the local Transportation Service to repair 24 CCTVs on various error roads.

"In addition, we together with the Department of Transportation will also carry out routine maintenance of CCTV that has been installed on various roads in the city of Surabaya," he said.
