JAKARTA - Incumbent European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa are reportedly agreed to lead the European Union.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed on Wednesday that three major groups of the European Parliament (EP) will support Ursula von der Leyen for a second term as President of the Commission.

In a speech at the German Parliament assessing the impact of this month's European general election, Chancellor Scholz said the groups had also agreed that former Portuguese prime minister Antonio Costa should become President of the European Council and Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas should be the Head of Foreign Policy of the bloc.

The three groups combined have a majority in the European Parliament (EP), Scholz said, adding that he hoped that a meeting of EU leaders on Thursday would soon sign the arrangement.
