The Metro Police Chief's Answer When ICW Urges The National Police Chief To Remove Him

JAKARTA - Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto responded to criticism from Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) regarding his lack of seriousness in dealing with cases of alleged extortion and acceptance of gratuities with the suspect Firli Bahuri. In fact, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit was asked to remove him for this reason.

According to Karyoto, his insistence on removing him as the Metro Jaya Police Chief was not really considered. However, it is emphasized that the investigation process into the Firli Bahuri case will certainly run according to the rules.

"The important thing is that as the person in charge of the investigation, I will conduct a good investigation," Karyoto told reporters, Wednesday, June 26.

However, if the National Police Chief views that he cannot work well and remove him, then, the decision will be accepted gracefully.

This is because the decision is considered the best for the benefit of the community.

"My problem is that I am the subordinate of the National Police Chief, whatever the Chief of Police wants to do, we accept it," said Karyoto.

ICW researcher, Diky Anandya previously stated that Firli Bahuri's case, which seemed stagnant because it had not been completed in the filing stage, especially since the detention of the suspect was not carried out, ordered the Polda Metro Jaya under the leadership of Inspector General Karyoto not to seriously handle the case.

"According to ICW, this condition also shows that the Head of Polda Metro Jaya, Inspector General Karyoto, is not really serious in handling Firli's case," said Diky.
