The UN Secretary-General also said that the killing of demonstrators, arbitrary arrests, and torture of detainees reportedly violated human rights and opposed the UN Security Council's calls for restraint, dialogue, and a return to Myanmar's democratic path.

"We are seeing a weekend full of bloodshed. The UN Secretary-General strongly condemns the ongoing violence against peaceful protesters, as well as the most basic human rights violations of the Myanmar people", UN Secretary-General Spokesman Stéphane Dujarric told Reuters.

"The Secretary-General reiterates his call to the international community to show solidarity with the Myanmar people and their democratic aspirations", he added.
