JAKARTA - The PKS DKI Jakarta Regional Leadership Council (DPW) accepted the decision of the PKS Central Leadership Council (DPP) which did not carry Anies Baswedan to become a candidate for the Governor of DKI Jakarta. The DPP decided to carry the Deputy Chairperson of the PKS Syuro Council Mohamad Sohibul Iman.

Secretary of the DKI Jakarta PKS DPW Abdul Aziz admitted that his staff in Jakarta are still ready to win Sohibul Iman to contest the DKI Jakarta Pilkada.

"We are satisfied, support, and appreciate the DPP decision because the name Mr. M. Sohibul Iman is also included in our proposal. Whoever the name chosen from what we proposed, we are ready to win in DKI with enthusiasm," Aziz told reporters, Monday, June 24.

Aziz views that Sohibul is a competent PKS cadre. While serving as President of PKS for the 2015-2020 period, Sohibul was considered successful in increasing PKS votes in the legislative elections.

"Mr. MSI (Sohibul) is the previous PKS president who has been proven to increase PKS votes nationally. We are sure he will be able to win the DKI Regional Election and make Jakarta better," said Aziz.

For information, the PKS DPP decision to carry Sohibul Iman in the Jakarta gubernatorial election is a follow-up to the DKI Jakarta PKS DPW proposal that offers a number of candidates.

Apart from Sohibul, DPW PKS DKI Jakarta also proposed the name Anies Baswedan. The DPW previously also met with the former Governor of DKI Jakarta on Thursday, May 30. During the meeting, PKS had Anies for his willingness to be promoted as a candidate for Governor of DKI Jakarta in the 2024 Pilkada.

Meanwhile, PKS DPP spokesman Ahmad Mabruri said that Sohibul was chosen because he was considered the best cadre.

"As the winning party in Jakarta, PKS has decided to fight for its best cadre as a candidate for governor of DKI Jakarta. The candidate we are carrying is Mohamad Sohibul Iman, who currently serves as Deputy Chair of the PKS Syuro Council," said Mabruri.

Responding to this, Sohibul admitted that he was ready to carry out his party's orders. Although, Sohibul admitted that he did not have special preparations when he was promoted as a candidate for Governor of DKI Jakarta.

"As a party cadre, of course, I must always be ready to be given any mandate. Moreover, this mandate is the aspiration of DKI cadres and inspiration such as thoughts, considerations, and decisions from the central leadership," explained Sohibul.
