AirNav Permit Down, Manokwari Rendani Airport Now Uses 2,300 Meters Of Pacu Land

WEST PAPUA - Rendani Airport Manager in Manokwari, West Papua Province, has used a runway of 2,300 meters long.

Head of the Class II Airport Organizing Unit (UPBU) Rendani Manokwari Havandi Gusli said the Directorate General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation had issued a permit to use the Rendani Airport runway from 2,000 meters to 2,300 meters.

"We have prepared a publication document or Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) issued by AirNav Indonesia. AIP was issued this month and we can already use a runway of 2,300 meters," he said in Manokwari, Sunday,

He said that by increasing the length of the runway, it would affect the performance of Rendani Airport.

With a runway length of 2,300 meters, aircraft such as the Boeing 737-900 can carry 100 percent of the capacity. Meanwhile, the runway along the 2,000 meters of the aircraft only carries 70-80 percent of the capacity.

"For example, an airplane should be able to carry a burden capacity of 100 tons, with a runway of 2,000 meters, it can only carry 80 tons. But with 2,300 meters he can carry 100 tons, this is profitable for airlines," he said.

Meanwhile, AIP is an international document containing aeronautical information from airports that is permanent and important for flight navigation. AIP is a publication document or notification to all airlines in the world.

He said with AIP documents, all pilots who land or pass through Rendani Airport can find out the airport's performance, including the length and width of the runway.

He appealed to the public to be more careful when there are planes that will take off because at the end of the runway close to the highway where residents pass by.

Although the distance between the end of the runway and the road reaches 120 meters, it is still safe from aircraft blast jets (strong air drives produced by aircraft jet engines).

"That's why we put up signs so that people don't stop when the plane is about to take off. Because the view of the plane will take off, it's good, I'm afraid it will disrupt the flow of traffic," he said.

The extension of the Rendani Airport runway from 2,000 meters to 2,300 meters was carried out by the Ministry of Transportation for two years, namely 2022-2023 with a total budget of Rp280 billion from the APBN. The project was completed on December 31, 2023.
