KPK Finds 53 Illegal Class C Mining Excavations In East Lombok

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) plans to oversee mining control in East Lombok. This step was taken after they found 53 out of 208 class C excavations there turned out to be illegal.

"KPK through the Regional Coordination and Supervision Directorate (Korsup) V also oversees the acceleration of illegal excavation C," said Head of Region V Korsup Task Force Dian Patria, quoted from his written statement, Monday, June 17.

Dian said the weak supervision and control of class C mining by local governments had a negative impact on the environment, society, and state finances. "Moreover, there is no clear regulation and supervision from the local government," he said.

"If it continues, local governments can lose the potential of local revenue or PAD, thus hampering regional progress," he continued.

The control of this class C excavation can be done by monitoring taxes and volume of cargo. However, this condition has not been running optimally.

"The local government is not firm in cracking down and optimizing regional taxes. For example, there are still many trucks carrying non-metallic mineral loads and aid or MBLB exceeding the permitted limits," said Dian.

Not only that, the truck does not use tarpaulin covers. So, it is very possible to pollute the environment and can trigger accidents.

"However, when checked at the checkpoint these trucks are not subject to sanctions," he said.

Then, Dian also mentioned that there are many loopholes in corruption in this mining business in East Lombok. Thus, there are recommendations given, such as focusing tax collection on border posts with Central Lombok to helping with illegal mining permits with a one-stop service system or one-door.

There are a lot of leaks (corruption holes) there. Dump trucks carrying overloaded C material will also damage infrastructure that results in state losses. Not to mention, it is not easy to ensure the integrity of officers in the field in the way they are today," concluded Dian.
