Prabowo And King Jordan Discuss Bantuk Delivery Plan To The West Bank

JAKARTA - Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein discussed plans to expand the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in the West Bank.

Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Secretariat General of the Ministry of Defense Brigadier General TNI Edwin Adrian Sumantha explained that the two discussed this after attending a summit related to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza which was held in Amman, Jordania, Tuesday (11/6).

The two leaders, according to Edwin, acknowledged that the West Bank also needed attention because the area was also affected by the war and Israeli military aggression in Gaza.

In the same meeting, Prabowo and King Abdullah II also discussed the possibility to resume sending aid to Gaza by air (airdrop).

"Indonesia is willing and ready to contribute to all efforts to alleviate the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Palestine, and we hope to cooperate with countries in the region," Prabowo told King Jordania.

Indonesia and Jordan on April 9, 2024, deployed direct assistance from the air to Gaza using the C-130 J Super Hercules aircraft from the Indonesian Air Force. In the operation of sending the aid, there were 900 people's air umbrellas (PUO) and 50 air umbrellas of goods (PUB) containing humanitarian aid packages deployed to the Palestinian people in Gaza.

It is not easy for Indonesian Air Force aircraft to pass through Gaza's airspace, because there is a permit that is quite complicated and needs to be obtained from Israeli authorities, while Indonesia and Israel do not have diplomatic relations.

Therefore, cooperation with Jordan is crucial, because the country borders Israel and Palestine and has diplomatic relations with the two.

Indonesia is also the second country in Southeast Asia after Singapore, which deployed its assistance from the air directly to the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Prabowo visited Amman, Jordan, since Monday (10/6), to attend the Gaza-related summit which was held for a day, Tuesday.

During the meeting, Prabowo conveyed four points as Indonesia's attitude, namely Indonesia is committed to increasing fund support for the United Nations Aid and Work Institute for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA).

Second, Indonesia is ready to send more medical personnel and build field hospitals, send hospital aid ships to Gaza, and return to deploying aid from the air to Gaza if needed.

Third, Indonesia is ready to accept up to 1,000 patients from Gaza to be treated in Indonesia and they will be repatriated when the situation returns to normal. Fourth, Indonesia is also ready to provide post-traumatic care to children who are victims of war in Gaza, also send them home, then return them when the situation in Gaza has recovered and is normal.

After a 2-day visit in Jordan, Prabowo continued his trip to Saudi Arabia to meet the Crown Prince/Prime Minister Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
