Asked To Investigate Jokowi's Alleged Corruption, Setyo Budiyanto: KPK Waits For Report

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Setyo Budiyanto said his party could not simply investigate allegations that the 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had committed corruption during his tenure. There must be a basis for reports or complaints submitted.

This was conveyed by Setyo after Jokowi was included in the list of corrupt figures according to the Organizational Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) version. He is on the list with Kenyan President William Ruto, Nigerian President Ahmed Tinubu, former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and Indian businessman Gautam Adani.

"If it is only temporary through the media, yes, we are waiting for certain parties to report this," Setyo told reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Friday, January 3.

Setyo said that the KPK cannot move carelessly, let alone only based on narratives. So, his party is now just waiting for public reports.

"In principle, if we, right, everything must have evidence, there are supporting documents, evidence, something is shown to confirm that it has been suspected of being a criminal act of corruption," said the former Director of KPK Investigation.

"As long as it's only possible to be verbal, maybe it's just a narrative, yes, of course we didn't do it. We're just waiting maybe there are parties who provide detailed information, information, documents, and so on," continued Setyo.

As previously reported, the 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) casually responded to his name on the OCCRP version of the finalists list. He even challenged back to prove it.

"What kind of corrupt figure, ha ha ha. What is the evidence of Sing being corrupted," said Jokowi when met at his residence in Solo, Tuesday, December 31.

Jokowi emphasized that there were many accusations and malicious framing that were made without clear evidence. "Yes, now there are a lot of slanders, a lot of malicious framing, a lot of accusations without any evidence," concluded the former governor of DKI Jakarta.
