Irman Gusman: Constitutional Court Decision Proof Of Strict Law And Democracy

The former chairman of the DPD for the 2009-2016 period, Irman Gusman, assessed that the decision of the Constitutional Court to grant the entire 2024 General Election Result Dispute (PHPU) dispute he submitted was evidence of the establishment of law and democracy in Indonesia.

"This is proof of the upholding of law and democracy. This victory is the victory of the people of West Sumatra," said Irman Gusman as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, June 10.

This was conveyed by Irman Gusman in response to the Constitutional Court's decision which ordered the KPU as the respondent to re-vote (PSU) for the election of candidates for members of the 2024 West Sumatra Provincial DPD by having to include Irman Gusman as participants.

"I would like to express my gratitude for this decision. I will return to Indonesia soon because it is currently still in the United States," said Irman.

Arriving in Indonesia, Irman said that he would immediately consolidate and prepare steps in dealing with the PSU ordered by the Constitutional Court through the Case Decision Number 03-03/PHPU.DPD-XXII/2024.

"This is the first time in history," he said.

Meanwhile, the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Suhartoyo in his decision granted the petitioner's request in its entirety.

In addition, the Constitutional Court also ordered Irman Gusman to announce honestly and openly about his identity, including that he was once a convict.

The announcement is through media that can be accessed widely by the public, including voters.

The PSU was carried out within 45 days from the time the decision was pronounced. Then, the KPU determined the correct vote based on the results of the re-voting without the need to report it to the Constitutional Court.
