Harley-Davidson Brings Back Super Glide, Legendary Cruiser of the 70s Era

JAKARTA - Harley-Davidson is back playing the nostalgia card. The American manufacturer released a limited edition Super Glide as a tribute to the legendary model of the early 1970s.

According to a report from MotorCycleNews (MCN) quoted Thursday, June 18, Harley fans' reaction on the internet was immediately crowded. Many praised its simple, clean design, and very close to the classic cruiser character of the 70s era.

The Super Glide first appeared in 1971 with the name FX Super Glide. At that time, this motorcycle was called a factory custom, which is a custom-style motorcycle that was directly made by the manufacturer.

The design was worked on by Willie G. Davidson, the boss of Harley-Davidson design at that time.

The formula is simple. Harley took the sleek front of the 1200 Sportster, then installed it on the Big Twin FL model. The result looks like a homemade custom bike, but still comes out of the official factory.

The recipe was a hit in the United States market. The Super Glide then entered Harley's lineup in various forms throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

Now, 55 years after the original model was born, Harley is bringing that approach back to life in the 2026 model.

MCN reported that this motorcycle uses a Milwaukee Eight 117 Big Twin engine mounted on a Softail frame. Softail is a typical Harley frame that gives a classic look, but still uses a modern rear suspension system.

Harley also gives a front-end with a protruding style, single disc brakes, and 19-inch wheels.

The classic feel is pursued through the many shiny chrome on the engine. White, red, and blue paint with old-style logos make this motorcycle look like it came from an old Harley catalog.

The water-drop-shaped fuel tank holds 19 liters, or five US gallons. Above it is a chrome-plated instrument panel.

The handlebars use a mini-ape model, a typical high-mounted custom motorcycle that makes the rider's hand position slightly raised.

Other details also emphasize its classic style. There is a two-to-one exhaust, a round air filter, and LED headlights.

For Harley lovers, this package is definitely not just a new motorcycle. It's nostalgia given a modern engine, lots of chrome, and a look that is deliberately not too busy.
