JAKARTA - Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces attacked villages in the State of Gezira, killing 100 people, according to local activists.

If true, the attack will be the latest in a series of dozens of attacks by RSF soldiers against small villages across the agricultural state after they took control of the capital Wad Madani in December.

Wad Alnoura Village witnessed genocide on Wednesday after RSF attacked twice, killing up to 100 people, the pro-democracy Wad Madani Resistance Committee said in a statement on social media on Wednesday, June 5 evening.

Later they said the death toll reached hundreds, and said Sudanese soldiers had not heeded requests for help.

RSF began fighting the army in April 2023 after a dispute over the integration of the two powers. RSF has taken over the capital Khartoum and most of western Sudan.

Now they are trying to get into the center, as the UN agency says the Sudanese people are in a risk of starvation that is imminent.

In a statement on Wednesday, June 5, the RSF said it had attacked military bases and allied militias around Wad Alnoura but did not recognize any civilian casualties.

However, the Wad Madani Resistance Committee accused them of using heavy artillery against civilians, looting, and encouraging women and children to seek refuge in the nearby city of Managil.

They shared photos of bodies wrapped for burial in open fields among a large crowd of men.
