Due To Cigarette Benefits, Houses In Cakung Burnt Out

JAKARTA - One residential unit in the Milling Village RT 08/06, Milling Village, Cakung District, East Jakarta, was scorched by fire, Wednesday, June 5.

The cause of the fire came from the props of cigarette butts which then grew and spread to other buildings.

"The cause was because cigarette butts were thrown away carelessly. The object caught fire in a house with an area of 160 square meters," said Head of East Jakarta Gulkarmart Sub-dept., Gatot Sulaeman when confirmed, Wednesday, June 5.

The fire had grown and burned one building. Losses due to the fire are estimated at Rp. 30 million. Meanwhile, officers managed to save two families as a result of the fire.

Currently, the flames have been extinguished by 40 firefighters. A total of 8 cars were deployed.

"The fire was caused by cigarette butts that were littered and there was an ignition in a cardboard box of used goods, snatching into the kitchen, causing fire," he said.
