The Prosecutor's Office Of Belawan Demands The Death Penalty For The Defendant Courier Of 13 Kg Of Crystal Methamphetamine

The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Belawan District Attorney (Kejari), North Sumatra, has demanded the death penalty of the defendant Suparman (49), which is considered proven to be a 13 kilogram (kg) shabu-shabu courier.

"That's right. The trial was held at the Medan District Court (PN) last Thursday (30/5) and the defendant was charged with the death penalty," said Head of Intelligence at the Belawan District Attorney's Office, Oppon Beslin Siregar, in Medan, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, June 3.

He said the defendant's actions, who is a resident of Environment VII, Fisherman Indah Village, Medan Labuhan District, Medan City, were proven guilty.

The defendant is considered to have violated Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

"The consideration of the public prosecutor is that the aggravating thing is that the defendant's actions do not support the government's program to eradicate narcotics trafficking. Meanwhile, mitigating is not found," he said.

His party said that the trial would then continue with the agenda of a memorandum of defense or plea from the defendant and his legal advisor on Thursday (6/6).

"Thursday in front of the agenda for the pledoi trial from the defendant," concluded Oppon.

It is known that the indictment of the Prosecutor's Office of Belawan Daniel Surya Partogi said this case began when Rasyid, who was on the wanted list (DPO), contacted Suparman.

The defendant Suparman then picked up 13 kg of crystal methamphetamine to the waters of the high seas on the Indonesia-Malaysia border along with three people he ordered.

"The defendant and three people ordered by Rasyid left for the coast of Fisherman Indah following the coordinates of the methamphetamine pick-up," said the public prosecutor reading the indictment.

Then the defendant met a Malaysian-flagged yellow motorboat manned by three men on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at around 21.00 WIB.

After receiving the 13 kg of crystal methamphetamine, the defendant and his entourage returned home. While on the way, the defendant opened a cloth bag with a line of motif for taking five plastic packages of methamphetamine.

The five packs were moved into a gray backpack covered with flower motif pillowcases, then the defendant kept them in a white plastic bucket.

Meanwhile, the other eight packs of methamphetamine are still stored in a line-motivated cloth bag.

The defendant Suparman contacted witness Dahliana as the defendant's wife to pick her up at the coastal area of Ujung Tanjung Beach, Bagan Deli Village, Medan Belawan District, Medan City.

"After meeting, the defendant and his wife used a motorcycle rickshaw. However, while on the way, the police officers stopped the rickshaw and arrested the defendant," said Daniel.
