Central Kalimantan Police Explains Members Shoot Palm Oil FFB Thieves In Kotim To Death

JAKARTA - The Central Kalimantan Regional Police (Polda) explained the chronology of a man in East Kotawaringin (Kotim) who died after being shot, for decisive action measured by police officers, Friday, May 31, afternoon.

The man with the initials A is suspected of being the perpetrator of the theft of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) belonging to PT Sinar Cipta Cemerlang (SCC), Cempaga Hulu District, East Kotawaringin Regency (Kotim).

"The firm action was taken after a group of perpetrators attempted to attack a joint patrol team using sharp weapons," said Head of Public Relations of the Central Kalimantan Police, Kombes Pol Erlan Munaji, in Palangka Raya, Sunday.

He explained that the incident began when the police and the security team of PT SC carried out patrols in Region V II division at the PT SCC oil palm plantation location.

During the patrol, the joint team found a group of people who had stolen palm oil FFB belonging to PT SCC.

"The joint team then fired warning shots so that people who committed theft left the PT SC plantation," he said.

Then at first a group of people suspected of being the perpetrators of the theft of palm oil FFB fled into the plantation.

However, when joint patrol officers took evidence in the field in the form of dodos, visites and FFB, there was a group of people who threatened and attacked a joint patrol team.

Therefore, the patrol team fired warning shots again with the intention that a group of people could withdraw from the plantation location.

"But some of these people continue to carry out attacks using sharp weapons," he said.

Erlan further said that due to a number of people who were still trying to attack officers using sharp weapons, the personnel with the initials TA took measured police action against one of the known communities with the initials A.

From this decisive and measurable action, A was found to have been hit by a bullet in the stomach and was immediately taken to the hospital. However, when referred to Bhayangkara Hospital, the man was critical and died.

"For this incident, we formed a joint team from the Ditreskrimum and Bidpropam to follow up on the case," he said.

The police officer with the rank of three jasmine officers revealed that the members who carried out the police's actions in a measured manner had been secured and further examination was carried out.

"We are currently investigating more in this case," said Kombes Pol Erlan Munaji.
