Assuming The 2024 Election Is The Worst, PDIP Recommends The Election System To Be Reviewed

JAKARTA - Chairman of the PDI-P DPD (PDIP) Puan Maharani read out 17 points of external recommendations from the National Working Meeting V PDIP today, Sunday, May 26. One of them mentioned the poor democracy in the country because of the abuse of power until ethical violations occurred in the 2024 General Election.

"The National Working Meeting V Party considers that the 2024 General Election is the worst election in the history of Indonesian democracy," said Puan when reading the results of the PDIP National Working Meeting at the Beach City International Stadium, Ancol, North Jakarta.

"This is due to abuse of power, interventions by law enforcement officials, violations of ethics, misuse of state resources, and massive practice of money politics," he continued.

Puan said that the National Working Meeting V PDIP participants agreed that the poor implementation of the 2024 General Election was due to the neutrality of election organizers. So, it's time for the electoral system to be reviewed again.

"Consolidation of democracy, institutions of political parties, strengthening of the press and civil society, and encouraging reform of a just legal system," said the chairman of the DPR RI.

Furthermore, the National Working Meeting V PDIP also assesses that the quality of democracy in the country needs a control and balance function so that its quality increases. This is done by strengthening political parties and encouraging fair treatment for those who choose to be inside and outside the government.

"The National Working Meeting V of the Party recommends the PDI-P faction of the DPR RI to encourage legislative policies to improve the quality of Pancasila democracy; to strengthen party institutions, and encourage equal and fair treatment between political parties that are within the government and those outside the government," concluded Puan.
