JAKARTA - The Gunungkidul Regency Tourism Office (Dispar), Yogyakarta Special Region, proposed the construction of 15 roads to tourist attractions connected to the southern road route (JJLS).

This is done to accelerate tourism development which is expected to boost economic growth.

Head of the Gunungkidul Tourism Office (Dispar), Oneng Windu Wardana, said that based on Dispar's records, 15 roads in tourist areas in the South Coast Strategic Room Unit (SRS) were damaged. Then, two other roads at Batur Agung and Sokoliman SRS were also damaged.

"If supporting infrastructure is available in the southern region, the area will be more crowded. The old target for tourists can be achieved," said Oneng Windu on Thursday, May 23, 2024, as reported by Antara.

According to him, supporting infrastructure in the southern region of Gunungkidul, such as the lack of roads around the southern route (JJLS).

The lack of supporting facilities greatly impacts tourist visits and tourism developments in general in the area.

There are several roads leading to tourist areas that are not comfortable for tourists to pass because they are damaged. In addition, some points have not been electrified and water networks.

Not only that, even at the points of the available electricity network there is no lighting yet.

"The basic need to open a business in the southern region is mainly around JJLS lacking," he said.

So far, continued Oneng, Dispar has tried to attract tourists with events, such as Beach and Run. In every sectoral gathering, Dispar always conveyed the obstacles to developing Gunungkidul tourism.

"The Regent also asked investors who have land in Gunungkidul to immediately build. That way, it can increase the length of stay of tourists in Gunungkidul," he said.

Regarding the Government's plan through the National Road Implementing Work Unit (Satker PJN) DIY Region to build a rest area at JJLS Kelok 18, Kalurahan Girijati, Purwosari, the Gunungkidul Regency Government needs to be involved and benefit from the rest area. That way, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are more empowered and can advance to class.

"Dispar has the task of preparing human resources so that they can compete. Don't be an audience. Rest areas provide food and others so that HR and other carrying capacity need to be provided," he said again.
