BATAM - The Department of Food Security and Agriculture (DKPP) of Batam City, Riau Islands Province (Kepri), has tightened the entry route for the delivery of sacrificial animals for Eid al-Adha 1445 Hijri as an effort to prevent Mouth and Nail Diseases (PMK). Batam City DKPP veterinarian Samuel Tampubolon said his party was controlling and coordinating with the animal quarantine team to ensure there were no PMK cases. Currently in Batam City there are no cases of PMK. "But the tightening that we have to do and I still direct mandatory vaccines and complete health documents for livestock sent, because PMK is contagious," said Samuel in Batam, Antara, Wednesday, May 22. These efforts are not only to ensure the health of sacrificial animals, but also to maintain the attractiveness of buyers so that there is no loss to the traders of sacrificial animals. "For example, the saliva continues to come out, later the performance will decrease, so buyers will have little desire to buy," he said. Samuel said that until now the origin of the cattle to Batam City in 2024 came from Central Lampung and Medan. He also ensured that the sacrificial animals from the two regions had received routine vaccinations to booster vaccinations. "And in Lampung, PMK has been vaccinated, we also control it, we have to check it, so there is a PMK test, ELISA NSP test, and PCR test," he said. Previously, the sale of sacrificial animals, both cows and goats in Batam City, began to spread ahead of Eid al-Adha 1445 Hijri. Seller of sacrificial animals, Rijal in Batam, Saturday, said that so far 250 cattle have been sold on Idul Adha H-37. "A total of 250 have been purchased and the stock is still safe. We have brought the ordered animals to the cage in Sembulang for the fatting process," said Rijal.

The price of cattle sold ranges from Rp. 22 million and above and the price of goats starts from Rp. 3 million and above. He further explained that the types of cows available include the Bali Cattle, the Role of Ongole (PO), Metal, local, to Limosin.
