Paspampres Affirms Security Of Men Who Rampant Until Jokowi Almost Falls According To Procedures

JAKARTA - The Presidential Security Forces (Paspampres) said that the security of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) during a working visit in Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi, was in accordance with the established procedures.

This was conveyed by Assistant Intelligence to the Commander of Paspampres (Asintel Danpaspampres) Colonel Kav Herman Taryaman, responding to the incident when someone approached the President when the Head of State was conducting an interview with the media in Southeast Sulawesi, Tuesday, May 14.

"Regarding the video circulating on social media, Paspampres secured someone when Mr. President Joko Widodo said that the doorstop in front of the media took place at the Konawe Regency Hospital, Southeast Sulawesi Province, Tuesday, May 14, 2024," Herman said in a statement via text message quoted by ANTARA.

He conveyed that in the implementation of the interview while last or doorstop, the President was accompanied by predetermined officials.

"When the President said the doorstop in front of the media, suddenly someone came from behind to approach the President with the intention and purpose that until now it was still being investigated," explained Herman.

Based on the video circulating, the person came from behind the President.

Then the Paspampres members who used to stick to Jokowi swiftly tried to block the person. However, when the effort was carried out, the Paspampres' tall and large body accidentally nudged the President's body until he was pushed to the side.

Herman conveyed that in accordance with TNI Law No. 34 of 2004 concerning the Main Tasks of the TNI in terms of securing VVIP, the main task of Paspampres is in accordance with the standard operating laws and procedures (SOPs) it has, namely carrying out the task of securing physical proximity to possible threats that could endanger VVIP objects.

With the action of someone trying to get closer to the object of the VVIP, Paspampres members secure it by keeping the person away from VVIP objects to avoid unwanted things from happening.

"The action to keep this person away is carried out by the Presidential Personal Guard (Walkri), where Walpri is a member of Paspampres who is always closest to the President," explained Herman.

Meanwhile, according to Herman, people who tried to approach the President had been handed over to regional security to investigate the motive in trying to break into the VVIP object.

Separately, Acting Deputy for Protocol and Media of the Presidential Secretariat, Yusuf Permana, said that the man who tried to approach Jokowi wanted to convey matters related to staffing.

The Palace has communicated with the Konawe Regency Government and the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Government to find out the problems that occurred.
