KPU Manokwari Sets Minimum Requirements For Independent Paslon Support For The 2024 Pilkada

MANOKWARI-General Election Commission (KPU) Manokwari, West Papua, has set a minimum requirement for support for pairs of candidates (paslon) for regents and deputy regents of independent lanes in the 2024 regional head elections (Pilkada).

The minimum support was announced by the Chairman of the Manokwari KPU, Christine R. Rumkabu, who stated that the candidate pair must receive support from at least five districts, reflecting 50 percent of the total nine districts in Manokwari.

"Manokwari Regency has nine districts, that means the candidate pair must have at least the support of the residents in the five districts. Support is given in the form of collecting ID cards," he said.

The minimum requirement for support is 13,813 support, referring to Article 41 paragraph 2 of Law Number 10/2016 concerning the Election of Governors, Regents, and Mayors, which stipulates that individual candidates must receive support of 10 percent of the total list of permanent voters (DPT) for the 2024 General Election in the local area.

"If you refer to the Election DPT in Manokwari, which totals 138,128 voters, then the minimum support requirement for individual candidates in Manokwari is 13,813 support," he said.

This support will be proven by collecting photocopies of electronic ID cards listed in the B1 KWK model form. The support submission process will be carried out from May 5, 2024 to August 19, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Manokwari KPU has also prepared the Candidate Helpdesk as an information center to receive questions and responses related to the nomination of candidate pairs, both from independent channels and political party channels. The registration of candidate pairs, both independent and from the path of political parties, will be held simultaneously on 27-29 August 2024.

"Meanwhile, registration of candidate pairs will be carried out simultaneously, both independent candidate pairs and political party lanes on 27-29 August 2024," he said.

In addition, for candidate registration through the path of political parties, the minimum requirement for support is 20 percent of the total seats in the DPRD or 25 percent of the accumulated valid votes in the election. Members of the Manokwari DPRD in the 2024 election have 30 seats, so the minimum requirement for political party support is six seats.
