Night Rocked By An M 6.5 Earthquake, This Morning Residents-Tourists Activities On Garut Beach Normal

The Garut Police Station (Satpolairud) said that the activities of residents and tourists on the southern coast of Garut Regency, West Java, returned to normal, Sunday, April 28 morning.

Garut is known to have been rocked by an earthquake measuring magnitude (M) 6.5 on Saturday, April 27 at midnight.

Head of the Garut Police Satpolairud AKP Anang Sonjaya said the earthquake was strong enough for people in coastal areas in Garut, even so, people have started their normal activities as usual.

"Yes, community activities and visitors are normal," said Anang when contacted by cell phone in Garut, Sunday, April 28 morning, was confiscated by Antara.

He conveyed that visitors to the Santolo Beach tourist attraction until the morning were observed to still continue to carry out activities in tourist areas.

"For visitors or tourists until this morning still survive," he said.

He appealed to the public and tourists on the coast of the South Coast of Garut to always be vigilant and remain calm or not panic in the event of an earthquake.

Weather conditions and sea waves in the South Coast of Garut, he said, were observed to be normal, even so his party continued to monitor and increase patrols.

"The sea wave is normal, under control for the residents of Santolo Beach, and visitors are still advised to be calm to avoid things that are not expected," he said.

Based on the BMKG report, the M6.5 earthquake was centered at sea 151 km southwest of Garut Regency with a depth of 10 km and had no potential for a tsunami.
