JAKARTA - Digital Communication Expert from the University of Indonesia Firman Kurniawan shared simple tips so that people are not deceived by artificial intelligence (AI) technology engineering content or artificial intelligence when shopping online in digital spaces.

Starting from observing over-looking visuals to checking repeatedly with services available on search engine services to several tips shared.

"First, from the visual to see something, it's genuine or from AI, usually for those whose AI results are too perfect. So if for example the image moves in the form of a video, it's smooth, there's no pause, even though in reality when people talk sometimes they like to have a break or be silent for a while," said Firman when contacted by ANTARA, Sunday.

He gave an example of one of the AI-made video content that went viral on social media was when the video of President Joko Widodo's speech was engineered as if he was speaking Mandarin in October 2023.

The video circulated widely and caused a commotion because the AI-made engineering video shows the President is very proficient in talking in Mandarin.

Whereas after investigating the video, the source came from 2015 which was uploaded by YouTube The US - Indonesia Society (USINDO) and in the video, President Joko Widodo gave a speech using English.

"Well, what's too smooth like that can be different. The case of Pak Jokowi's video using Mandarin looks like he's smooth and there's no pause. Even though in the original video he actually has a lot of pauses," said Firman.

The same thing can also be different from advertising content for AI-made products so that people are not deceived when buying these products.

Another tip that Firman shared was to view online selling content in the form of images made by AI or not, namely that people can check their authenticity by utilizing the services available on search engines.

"Usually for immovable products, sometimes the image results are too beautiful. So from the start it should be suspected and it can be checked directly, for example using Google, it can be searched for and usually can come out of the original origin or image. Many other applications are also sought as AI content detectors," said Firman.

The next step, so that people are not deceived by AI content to shop online, is Firman suggested that people should shop in applications with authoritative organizers such as marketplaces and e-commerce.

"With services that are in charge, the responsibility is indeed better, so if there are products that are not appropriate or products that do not arrive at that, they can be complained and responded to. That is the advantage of the marketplace because it moves according to the applicable regulations from the government," he said.
