Deputy Chairperson Of DPD RI Asks OJK To Increase Intensity Of Blocking Online Judicial Actors

JAKARTA - Deputy chairman of the Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD) Sultan B Najamudin appreciated the steps taken by the Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) to block accounts of online gamblers.

According to him, online gambling is a social disease that is very disturbing to the public. Online gambling has actually caused financial risks, criminal acts, violations of privacy, reducing productivity, to the mental health of the perpetrators.

"We are of course very concerned about the online gambling phenomenon that has spread widely among the public. Unfortunately, the public does not realize that online gambling line is the motive for financial fraud which causes the most financial losses", said Sultan through his official statement, Sunday, April 21.

The former chairman of HIPMI Bengkulu believes that the OJK's efforts will have a significant impact in suppressing online gambling transaction activities. We also hope that the relevant ministries and law enforcement agencies to clergy will collaborate in tackling the spread of online gambling in the community.

"Online gambling phenomena or slots have even entered villages that have an internet network. This is certainly very vulnerable to threatening people's social lives, especially the younger generation in the long term", he said.

Furthermore, the Sultan asked the OJK to increase the intensity of blocking public accounts related to online gambling.

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) is known to have blocked 5,000 accounts suspected of being closely related to online gambling.

Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Mahendra Siregar said the blocking was carried out from the end of 2023 to March 2024.

"If we receive a list of accounts that are suspected to be used or being used as part of online gambling activities, we will immediately block them. The amount is around 5,000 accounts in recent months," Mahendra said at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, April 18.
