Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi: UN DK Resolution On Ceasefire Must Be Implemented Without Conditions

JAKARTA - The UN Security Council's resolution on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip must be carried out unconditionally, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, reminding the United States to support the resolution.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed this after a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Retno LP Marsudi in Jakarta, Thursday.

He said the two foreign ministers agreed to call on all parties related to the conflict in Gaza to exercise restraint

"The two ministers expressed hatred for the humanitarian disaster caused by the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. We agree that the UN Security Council's resolution on the ceasefire must be fully and unconditionally implemented," Foreign Minister Wang said after the meeting.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi further said the United States should support UN resolutions to the ceasefire in Gaza. He urged Uncle Sam's country to "warn the international community" amid concerns over the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

"The UN Security Council is a collective security mechanism that must not be used by certain countries," said Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

In Jakarta, Foreign Minister Wang Yi also met with the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo, as well as the Minister of Defense and President-elect Prabowo Subianto.

In addition, Foreign Minister Wang Yi is also scheduled to attend the discussion on the details of increasing economic cooperation between the two countries in the High-Level Dialogue Cooperation Mechanism (HDCM) which will be held in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara tomorrow.
