BMKG Detects Potential Heavy Rain On The Java Island Homecoming Route Ahead Of Eid 2024

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has detected the potential for heavy rain in a number of homecoming routes to Java Island ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1445 H or Eid Al-Fitr 2024.

Head of the BMKG Maritime Meteorology Center Eko Prasetyo said the potential for weather mainly refers to the provinces of Central Java (Central Java) and West Java (West Java).

"There is the potential for heavy rain in several areas, including part of the homecoming route on the island of Java, especially in the Jateng and West Java sections ahead of Lebaran or the homecoming phase," he said in a virtual press conference entitled Government Readiness to Face the Risk of Hydrometeorological Disasters followed by Zoom of the Presidential Staff Office in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 2, confiscated by Antara.

Reporting from the BMKG website, an early warning emerged for the potential for moderate to heavy rain which could be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in the Central Java region which includes mountainous areas, highlands, eastern Central Java, Solo Raya and its surroundings which are valid for the next four days.

Meanwhile, a similar situation in West Java is likely to occur during the day to night in parts of Sukabumi, Purwakarta, Subang, Bogor City, Bekasi, Depok, Karawang, Indramayu, Cirebon, Majalengka, Kuningan, Sumedang, Bandung. West Bandung, Cimahi, Cianjur, Garut, Tasikmalaya, and Ciamis.

"The same situation also needs to be watched out for in Sumatra and most of West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, most of Sulawesi, and most of Papua. This needs to be observed," he said.

In addition to the potential for heavy rain, BMKG also detected flood threats in a number of coastal areas during the period 1-13 April 2024 due to the influence of wind patterns.

"Even though it's only on a few coasts, we shouldn't ignore this condition so as not to disturb homecoming activities," he said.

In addition, BMKG also advised people who travel homecoming via the sea to always be aware of changes in wind speed, especially in the Sunda Strait, Bali Strait, and Lombok Strait.

"During transitions to rapid weather changes, especially at crossings, high wind speeds will have an impact on high waves at this crossing and have an impact on homecoming traffic, be aware of buildup and need mitigation," he said.
