Driver Killed By A Sritanjung Train In Jember

JEMBER - A motorcyclist died instantly when he was hit by the Sritanjung Train on the track between Mangli Station and Rambi Puji.

"Based on information from the train travel control center in Jember, that the Suritanjung train related Ketapang - Lempuyangan has been hit by a motorized vehicle between Mangli - Rambi Puji Station," said KAI Legal and Public Relations Manager for Operations 9 Jember Cahyo Widiantoro as reported by ANTARA, Friday, March 29.

According to him, the chronology of the incident was based on information from the driver that when the Suritanjung train was related to Ketapang - Jember crossing Jalan Perlantasan Langsung (JPL) 132 km 188+5 between Mangli Station - Rambi Puji, there were motorized vehicles that would pass at an unmaintained level crossing.

"Masinis has sounded the circulation of the locomotive many times, but the motorist did not heed it so that the incident was unavoidable," he said.

As a result of the incident, the Sritanjung train had stopped to carry out a series of checks and after the locomotive and train facilities were declared safe, the train continued its journey to Lempuyangan.

"Meanwhile, the motorcyclist who was hit by the train was immediately evacuated by local residents and the identity of the victim is still unknown," he said.

Cahyo appealed to the public to be more careful when crossing the railway line, especially at level crossings, because it endangers themselves and also results in disruption of train travel.

"According to Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation Article 114, road users are required to prioritize trains and provide main rights to vehicles that first cross the tracks," he said.
