Jokowi Orders PUPR-BNPB To Check Buildings Affected By Demak Floods

DEMAK - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) and the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to check buildings damaged by floods triggered by extreme rain in Demak Regency, Central Java.

"Later, the Ministry of Public Works will check in the field with BNPB," said President Jokowi after reviewing flood victims at SMK Ganesa, Demak, Friday, which was witnessed on the Presidential Secretariat YouTube channel in Jakarta, March 22, which was confiscated by Antara.

Meanwhile, regarding the damaged land, President Jokowi said the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) would provide new plant seeds to restore the affected environment.

"Including damaged plants, they will be given more seeds from the Ministry of Agriculture," said President Jokowi.

President Jokowi said that the government took the handling of flood disasters triggered by extreme rain in Demak, starting from the patching of collapsed embankments to shifting clouds.

"Yes, this is indeed very extreme rain, because extreme rain is 150 millimeters, here it is 238 millimeters. Very extreme," said President Jokowi.

President Jokowi said the extreme intensity of rain triggered a number of embankment infrastructures to burst with varying leakage widths.

According to him, the embankment was broken due to the capacity of the river exceeding the normal threshold.

"But last night the wide one, which broke 15 meters, last night at 1 o'clock, was closed, finished for four consecutive days during the day and night," said Jokowi.
