JAKARTA - President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday called for an integrated global effort to end Israel's occupation of Palestine.
He conveyed this during a special session on Palestine and Lebanon at the 8th Summit of the Eight Development Economic Cooperation Organization (KTT D8) in Cairo, Egypt.
On this occasion, President Abbas outlined a comprehensive political plan delivered by Palestine at the recent Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, urging the international community to adopt it as a means of achieving peace.
The plan includes several main measures, starting with an immediate ceasefire and the full withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces by UN resolution 2735. In addition, the plan calls for full Palestinian membership in the United Nations and protection of historical status and law on Islamic and Christian holy sites, President Abbas said, quoted from WAFA December 19.
The plan also advocates the implementation of the decision of the International Court, which has now become a resolution of the UN General Assembly, which requires an end to Israel's occupation and the demolition of illegal settlements within one year.
Furthermore, President Abbas proposed holding an international peace conference in June 2025, in accordance with the resolution of the UN General Assembly.
He underlined the need for global justice, calling on the international community to hold all parties accountable for international law violations, particularly Israel's ongoing actions in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria.
The call comes as the death toll in the Gaza Strip continues to grow, while efforts to bring about a ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave continue.
