Medan Residents Asked To Beware Of Ispa Due To Hot Weather

The Health Office (Dinkes) of Medan City, North Sumatra, asked residents to be aware of the disease of acute respiratory tract infection (ISPA) due to the hot weather in the area which reached 36.2 degrees Celsius.

"Usually the symptoms of ARI that arise due to the current hot weather," said the Head of Disease Prevention and Control at the Medan City Health Office, Dr. Pocut Fatimah Fitri, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, March 5.

He explained that the hot weather makes the body sweat easily and tired to stress, especially for Muslims who are fasting Ramadan 1445 Hijri.

He said high temperatures can also have an impact on memory disorders, attention becomes focusless, so that the reaction time to a body excitation decreases.

To anticipate the impact of the hot weather, his party gave some advice to Muslims when fasting to stay healthy, such as not skipping meal.

In addition, consuming sufficient water, breaking the fast with nutritious foods rich in fiber and protein, as well as eating honey and dates.

"Avoid consuming too much sweet food and caffeine, exercising regularly, making sure the hours of sleep are always sufficient and avoiding outdoor activities in the middle of the day," he said.

If you have to do outdoor activities during the day, he said, you have to try to use a body shield, such as a hat or umbrella.

The Center for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BBMKG) Region I Medan stated that the city of Medan was hit by hot weather reaching 36.2 degrees Celsius.

"The observation of temperatures at several BMKG North Sumatra Stations has a maximum temperature at the Post intersection, Ngumban Surbakti Street, Medan 36.2 degrees Celsius," said Head of BBMKG Region I Medan Hendro Nugroho.

He explained that the Class I Geophysics Station Tuntungan, Pancur Batu District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, recorded 36 degrees Celsius.

This hot weather has occurred since last weekend which was caused by a strong and diffuse westerly wind pattern in the North Sumatra region.

"This causes the difficulty of cloud growth in the area. Monitoring of Citra Radar on March 12, 2024 shows no cloud growth from morning to night," he said.
